What About Your Car?

You're packing up and moving house. Everything you own goes into a big van and it gets transported thousands of miles to your new home. But probably your most valuable possession (apart from your house) is your car, or cars. You can't pack them into a moving truck!

When you move, you could drive your car to your new hometown, or you could tow it, or you could sell it and buy another when you get to your new place. But what if you want to keep the car you've got? What's the best way to move it?

You need to use a car transportation company. These companies are experts at moving your car to where you want it to be. People move cars for all sorts of reasons, not just house moves. Buying cars on ebay, racing cars being towed to races, classic cars in transit, etc, - car transportation companies handle it all, day in, day out.

If your car is precious enough to you to keep through the move, let the experts move it for you.

Rental Truck Companies

Truck rental prices can vary tremendously based on size, time of week, and even where you are going to leave the truck when done. If you understand how the rental agency charges, you will maximize your move while minimizing your expense. Nothing beats having the right truck for the job!

The secret to low-cost moves is in understanding how each truck rental agency charges for the usage of their truck. Some don’t charge for mileage, others do. Some charge both mileage and fuel. Some charge by the day or hour, plus mileage and fuel. So don’t be fooled by low-ball bids.

The best way to find out how the different companies charge is to go to their websites. The larger companies will have an on-line wizard to help you estimate the cost of your journey. It's well worth the time to use these to get the best price for your move.

Planning To Move It Yourself

So you've decided to get that rental truck and move your family to a new city yourself.

While moving is never exactly a cheap experience, you can still save money by applying some cost-cutting principles both before you move and while you are on the road with your rental truck.

Organization helps you save money, and it is no different when you are planning a move with a rental truck. If you begin to get organized at least a month in advance, you stand a better chance of keeping costs down and avoiding last-minute expenses.

Packing can take more time than you think, and your move will go smoother if you plan ahead. A house move is an ideal time to de-clutter your life, so spend time disposing of stuff you really don't need to take with you. Sell it, give it away, recycle it or just take it to the garbage dump: if packing it and moving it doesn't seem worth the hassle - then get rid of it!

Rent A Truck To Move Your Home

Hiring a rental truck to help you make a house move is a big step. Loading is bad enough, but driving a big truck, especially through town, can be a nightmare. Fortunately several innovative truck companies now offer a 'you pack, we drive' service, so a professional can do the driving.

For people who need to move but can't afford the full service moving van like Mayflower, the new option of 'you pack, we drive' can seem like just the ticket. Renting a rental truck requires so much doing it yourself that many would rather not mess with it. Sometimes the rentals truck doesn't even seem to be in good mechanical condition. But just packing the truck yourself could be the answer.

For those frequent moves we Americans need to make, the 'you pack, we drive' option in a rental truck is a convenient innovation. With liability insurance as expensive as it is, and lawsuits on every hand, it is comforting to think of someone else having to hassle with the driving.
